# vcon-server > vcon-server stores vCons (the IETF conversation-record format, draft-ietf-vcon-vcon-core) encrypted at rest under per-tenant keys, keeps each for its tenant's retention period, erases it after, honors legal holds, and records every request in an audit log. It is written in Rust, licensed MIT OR Apache-2.0, and in development (not yet for production). ## Docs - [What is built](https://vcon-server.com/docs/status/): what works today and what is being built - [Getting started](https://vcon-server.com/docs/getting-started/): build, install from crates.io or download a release, master key, certificate, configuration, systemd - [Configuration](https://vcon-server.com/docs/configuration/): every key and default - [Tenants and keys](https://vcon-server.com/docs/tenants-and-keys/): scopes write, read, delete, legal (tenant keys) and admin (operator keys) - [Storing vCons](https://vcon-server.com/docs/storing-vcons/): accepted forms, checks, versions, ETag and If-Match - [Retention and legal holds](https://vcon-server.com/docs/retention-and-holds/): the purge rule and the legal routes - [Audit logs](https://vcon-server.com/docs/audit-logs/): what is recorded and what never is - [Security](https://vcon-server.com/docs/security/): key hierarchy and memory protection - [HTTP API](https://vcon-server.com/docs/http-api/): every route with its scope and answers - [MCP](https://vcon-server.com/docs/mcp/): the MCP server for AI agents, over HTTPS or stdio, and every tool with its parameters and an example - [Producers](https://vcon-server.com/docs/producers/): sending vCons and handling each answer - [Operations](https://vcon-server.com/docs/operations/): data directory, locks, sweep, logs, backups - [MCP](https://vcon-server.com/docs/mcp/): connecting an AI agent over HTTPS or the stdio command, and every tool with its parameters and an example - [Command line](https://vcon-server.com/docs/command-line/): tenant, key and audit commands, output and exit codes - [The vcon library](https://vcon-server.com/docs/library/): reading and checking a vCon in Rust with the vcon crate - [Development](https://vcon-server.com/docs/development/): layout, tests and gates ## Reference - [Problem types](https://vcon-server.com/problems/): every RFC 9457 type the API answers with - [Standards](https://vcon-server.com/standards/) - [Source](https://github.com/NormB/vcon-server)
